The Tramuntana Mountain Garden
Perched high in Mallorca’s Tramuntana mountains, this garden meets its surroundings on equal terms. Classical in structure close to the home, with cloud gardens, rosemary spilling over terraces and a cypress-lined driveway, it gradually becomes more wild as it moves outward, dissolving into lavender fields and olive groves.
The brief was for a home designed around a life lived outside, with simplicity, romanticism and a sense of belonging. Dining in the open air, long evenings under the sky, mornings with a view — all connected to the mountain landscape.
The planting moves in layers. Clipped teucrium and cypress holding structure near the house, citrus, rosemary and bougainvillea on the lower terraces, and finally to a lavender waterfall that spills down the hillside before dissolving into olive groves. Handmade terracotta pots draw the garden closer, bringing warmth and texture and grounding the space in Mediterranean tradition.
Colour shifts with the season, but the mood stays constant: unhurried and romantic.
"The focus was to be on outdoor living. We wanted simplicity and a sense of belonging."
